Steps to enable domain redirection in cpanel
Today, we will learn how to redirect a domain from cPanel. A domain redirect is a technique where the visitors of one website are directed to another Website.
Suppose you have purchased 3 domains from our Bitbyhost, and want the clicked visitors to be directed to the main domain. This can be done very easily with cPanel. Here is the step-by-step guide provided:
- First, log in to cPanel web with username and password.
- Scroll down and click ‘Redirects’.
- In the ‘Type’ field you can select ‘Permanent (301)’ if you want visitors of the old domain to be directed to the new domain. Select ‘Temporary (302)’ if you want the old website to be indexed. It is noted that the new website won’t be indexed in this case.
- In the ‘http?://(www).?’ field choose the domain you want to be redirected. Otherwise, select ‘All Public Domains’ to redirect all
- In the ‘/’ field, you can type any promotional website if needed. Otherwise, you can keep it blank.
- In the ‘Redirects to’ field type current domain name clients are to be redirected. Make sure to type the “https://” prefix before the domain name
- Only redirect with www. – This option ensures visitors always land on the version of your website with “www.” in front of the domain name (e.g., www.yourwebsite.com [invalid URL removed]).
- Redirection with or without www. – This allows visitors to access your website regardless of whether they type “www.” Both versions will be redirected to the same location.
- Do Not Redirect www. – This means there’s no redirection happening specifically for the “www.” version. Visitors could potentially land on two different versions of your website depending on whether they typed “www.” or not.
- Check-in ‘Wild Card Redirect’, if the old and new domain has the same file storage.
- When everything is done, click the ‘Add’ button to complete.
